Stanton's work recognized by jurors and exhibit visitors
July 31st was a very good night for Wendy Stanton. That was the night that she was recognized by both the Voice! 5 jurors and exhibit visitors for her intricately detailed wood structure piece, Dollhouse. Using wood burning techniques and oil pencil, Stanton created a magical, gingerbread-laden dollhouse complete with colorful interior rugs and paintings and exterior floral and landscaping motifs. The jurors were impressed and awarded Stanton the $100 Third Prize. However, the night wasn't over. At the opening reception, exhibit visitors had an opportunity to vote for their favorite piece. Stanton's work was selected as the favorite of forty-eight pieces in the exhibit. She received the People's Choice Award and a $50 prize.
Stanton is well known locally for creating
drawings, paintings and sculptures featuring nature, forests and water landscapes which incorporate fairies, angels and mermaids. Voice!5 is a juried art exhibition of work celebrating the creativity of artists with developmental disabilities from across New York State.
