Small Things Considered Opens June 3
May 25, 2011

Main View Gallery & Studio’s summer exhibit, Small Things Considered, opens with a free, public reception on Friday, June 3 from 5-7 pm at 73 Main St., Oneonta, NY. Featuring papier-mâché clay sculpture, cast metal sculpture and small world dioramas, along with works by featured artist Maria Brockmann and guest artist Ed Grube, Small Things Considered reflects a multi-media examination of each artist’s world and self writ small.
Featured Artist is Maria Brockmann who translates her love of nature into Petite Fleurs, a series of small-sized watercolor paintings that examine the uniqueness and detail of a variety of different flowers. Brockmann has been studying at Main View Gallery & Studio for the past several months and enjoys the challenge of developing her skills and moving in new directions.
Guest Artist Ed Grube enjoys creating three-dimensional small-scale reproductions of familiar household products. Main View Gallery "Cheered" in The Daily Star
March 8, 2011
Main View Gallery & Studio received a big "Cheer" in the opinion section of The Daily Star's March 8, 2011 edition.
"To the Main View Gallery, which continues to offer a venue for artistic expression for people with developmental disabilities."The Big Picture," which opened at the Main View Gallery on Friday, features large-format paintings and works in other media, created by artists who participate in the Arc Otsego's Center for Self Expression. The gallery and program offer a great deal to the artists who participate. Since it opened in 2007, the gallery has been a space for artists to learn and express themselves. Artists have also had the opportunity to participate in tai chi, acting and other forms of expression.
But as much as the gallery offers to the artists whose work is shown there, it offers just as much to the surrounding community. It is an inspiration to see each new gallery show pushing the artists to try new things, to face new questions and discover new ways of expressing themselves. It is a reminder that it is foolish to judge another person's limitations because of a disability. And it is a challenge to each of us to exceed expectations and try things that might not seem possible.
We wish the gallery and its artists continuing success."
Congratulations to all the artists, teaching artists and staff of Main View Gallery & Studio!

The Big Picture Opens March 4
March 3, 2011
In celebration of National Developmental Disability Awareness Month, Main View Gallery & Studio’s spring exhibit, The Big Picture, opens with a free, public reception on Friday, March 4 from 5-7 pm at 73 Main St., Oneonta, NY. The Big Picture is an exploration of space, composition, texture, detail and color- all on large surfaces. The exhibit grew from a patron’s request for larger works of art. Working with gallery staff and teaching artists Terry Fox, Walter Gurbo and Cristina Toro, Main View Gallery artists created large works inspired by nature and still life. Featured artist, Jeffrey Peterson’s 2’ x 3’ charcoal and acrylic on canvas painting, Still Life, was chosen for the exhibit’s cover art. Comprised of objects found at Gurbo’s studio, Peterson’s unique and meticulous approach to painting and his innate sense for composition resulted in a still life that has flow and movement. Peterson enjoys experimenting with new media and has displayed work in Otsego, Chenango and Delaware counties. His self-portrait was chosen as the cover art for Main View Gallery & Studio’s Fall 2009 exhibit, Self Stories. The opening reception is free and open to the public and features refreshments and art for sale. Regular gallery hours are M-F, 8-4 pm or by appointment. The exhibit runs through May 20, 2011. For more information call 607-432-1890 or visit the website at www.mainviewgallery.org.
